Sony completes acquisition of developer Halo and Destiny
Sony Corporation has announced the completion of the deal to buy Bungie Studios. This was reported on Twitter PlayStation.
“The deal to acquire Bungie is closed. So now we can officially say… Welcome to the PlayStation family, Bungie!” — noted the authors of the message. It is noted that the developer of the Halo and Destiny game series will have creative freedom and, as part of Sony, will be able to release titles not only for the PlayStation.
“We are proud to officially join the incredible PlayStation team and look forward to a new future for our company,” the firm said. The post elaborates that joining Sony will allow Bungie to bring together more gamers around the world.
“The strategic importance of this acquisition lies not only in obtaining the very successful Destiny franchise, but also in the new intellectual property that Bungie is currently working on,” Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki said at the beginning of the year. In May, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan announced that by the end of 2022, the corporation intends to direct 49 percent of its budget to the development of online games.
Sony’s acquisition of Bungie became known at the end of January. The deal is said to be valued at $3.6 billion.
