A huge building with a forest inside will appear in China
Norwegian architecture firm Snøhetta has presented a project for an unusual cultural center in China. A huge building with glass walls and a forest inside should appear in Beijing by the end of 2022, according to the organization’s website.
Inside, the room is an amphitheater with smart columns that look like ginkgo trees. They are equipped with equipment that is responsible for climate control, lighting, acoustics and rainwater drainage. Above them is a wooden roof with built-in solar panels.
The building is planned to be used as a library and lecture hall. As conceived by the designers, while reading books, studying or working at a computer, visitors should feel like they are not indoors, but in nature.
According to the architects, the new space is designed to bring people together, so there will be no partitions, except for external glass walls. The structures, 16 meters high, are designed in such a way that they create the illusion of a forest of transparent trees from the outside. The stepped landscaped areas below will allow visitors to sit where they feel comfortable and create an informal setting.
In December 2021, part of the 1000 Trees multifunctional complex was opened in Shanghai. The unusual architectural ensemble is inspired by one of the seven wonders of the world – the Hanging Gardens of Babylon in Babylon. A feature of the building are columns with trees of 70 different species planted at the top. According to the idea, a thousand of such structures will appear on the territory of the complex, each of which is equipped with an automatic irrigation system.
